March 9, 2013: a half-day trip along Taiwan’s north coast, with stops at Baishawan’s Linshanbi Beach and Longhorn 96.
A scene from the movie Secret, in which the male lead escorts the female lead home, was filmed on the cycling path at the Linshanbi Recreation Area. A colleague told me there was more than a bike path here—you could also walk down to the intertidal zone and splash around ^.^
So I picked an auspicious moment (low tide) on an auspicious day (sunny), and brought the two kids to the shore…
The entrance to Linshanbi Recreation Area was around the 23-kilometer mark on the Tamsui–Jinshan Highway. On the way home, we could stop near kilometer 22 for steak at Longhorn 96. More about the steak later—first, let’s play in the water…

Linshanbi is known for its algal reefs, a distinctive coastal formation worth slowing down to examine. Algae attach themselves to the stable andesite; as generations grow and die, thin layers of calcareous material gradually build up over the rocks.

They didn’t look quite as impressive as the green reef trenches at Laomei, though. Back to the water ~.~'"

The water here was incredibly clear and shallow. Even five or six steps out, it still didn’t reach our knees. The two kids got straight down to the serious business of playing ^.^

After playing all afternoon…we were hungry T.T

Time for steak ^.^

By the time we parked, the sun had already gone down…

When we visited in 2013, the restaurant’s big attraction was its 24-ounce steak: NT$580 for a huge and tasty meal ^.^
The décor certainly had character, but eating inside a jail-cell-themed booth felt a little…well…

A regular table was much more comfortable ^.^ And now, the food…
The borscht didn’t look especially photogenic, but it was genuinely delicious ^.^

The salad…not really my thing XD

The fried fish ordered for the kids arrived first ~.~

Ho…ho…ho…my steak was here. Excuse the drooling…

Skip the sauce. A little sea salt was all it needed ^.^

Finished eating…time to go home XD
Ending a travel post this abruptly isn’t usually my style…but I really was hungry…
